En plein air is a French expression meaning “in the open air”, and refers to the act of painting outdoors with the artist’s subject in full view. Plein air artists capture the spirit and essence of a landscape or subject by incorporating natural light, color and movement into their works.

The Town of Culver, IN will be hosting the second annual Culver Paint Out for a three day weekend September 27-29, 2024. Artists and visitors are invited to paint, observe, and enjoy the creativity and energy!

Culver Paint Out Weekend Schedule:

Friday, September 27:

  • Artist Registration

    • Welcome Table & Registration

      • 8:00 am-11:00 am – Location: Culver & Union Township Public Library (107 N Main St. Culver, IN 46511), bottom level foyer (enter in from courtyard doors facing Main Street)

    • Late Registration

      • 11:00 am-5:00 pm artists to register at the Culver & Union Township Public Library at the circulation desk upstairs.

  • Judges Art Gallery - Location: Culver Beach Lodge Top Floor - please enter through the main black door near the parking lot next to the marquee sign (819 E Lakeshore Dr. Culver, IN 46511)

    • 8:00 am-TBD – Open to Paint Out Artists

    • 5:00-9:00 pm – Open to the Public

  • Paint All Day

Saturday, September 28:

  • Artist Registration

    • Welcome Table

      • 8:00 am-11:00 am - Location: Culver & Union Township Public Library (107 N Main St. Culver, IN 46511), bottom level

    • Late Registration

      • 11:00 am-5:00 pm artists to register at the Culver & Union Township Public Library at the circulation desk upstairs.

    • 10:00 am-12:00 pm: Open to the Public

  • Quick Paint

    • 9:30-10:00 am – Quick Paint Canvas Stamp: Location: Culver Beach Lodge - please use west doors off the exterior patio (819 E Lakeshore Dr. Culver, IN 46511)

    • 10:00 am-12:00 pm – Quick Paint: Culver Farmers’ Market/Downtown Culver (Culver Park West Pavilion, Lakeshore Dr, or Main Street)

    • 12:30 pm – Deadline to Submit & Set Up Adjudicated Pieces: Culver Beach Lodge Conference Room (819 E. Lakeshore Dr. Culver, IN 46511)

    • 12:30 pm-1:00 pm – Judging: Culver Beach Lodge Conference Room (819 E. Lakeshore Dr. Culver, IN 46511)

      • Judges ONLY in the room.

      • While the judges score, we recommend artists go across the street to the Culver Coffee Company (634 E Lakeshore Dr.)

    • 1:00 pm-1:45 pm – Public Sale: Culver Beach Lodge Conference Room (819 E. Lakeshore Dr. Culver, IN 46511) - PURCHASERS MAY NOT LEAVE WITH CANVASES UNTIL AFTER AWARDS

    • 1:45 pm – Announcement of Awards

  • Artist Lunch & Exhibition Set Up (ticket required - can be found inside artist welcome bag/packet)

    • 2:00 pm – Culver Beach Lodge Conference Room (pizza & salad provided)

    • 2:00-3:00 pm – Set up of Artists exhibition set up (additional time for set up on Sunday)

  • Judges Exhibit Meet ‘n Greet

    • 6:30 pm-7:30 pm – Location: TBD (artist judges TBD)

  • Artist Dinner (badge required)

    • 7:30 pm-9:30 pm – Location: The Lakehouse Grille (620 E Lakeshore Dr. Culver, IN 46511) (~$15 for guests - subject to change)

Sunday, September 29:

  • Awards & Exhibition - Location: The Beach Lodge (819 E Lakeshore Dr. Culver, IN 46511)

    • 12:00 pm-1:00 pm – Artist Exhibition Set Up

    • 12:30 pm – Deadline to Submit Adjudicated

    • 1:00 pm – Deadline to Submit Purchase Prize Pieces

    • 1:00 pm-1:30 pm – Judging

    • 1:30 pm – PURCHASE PRIZE Guests Check-In**

    • 1:30 pm-3:00 pm – Public Art Sale, Awards (Around 2:00 pm) & Purchase Prizes (purchasers may not take the artwork until conclusion of awards)

    • Around 2:00 pm – Awards Ceremony
